Sebastian - Cerebral palsy (Uruguay) Update on May 24, 2015

Days Admitted to the Hospital: 29

Medical History:

The patient was adopted by his parents the second day after birth. The parents found the patient's fonticulus was bigger than a normal baby. So he was sent to a local hospital and was diagnosed with hydrocephalus. He received ventricular shunt surgery 3 times. The patient suffered from an epileptic seizure when he was 1 year old. There was no obvious cause. The attack form was not clear. He didn't receive medication for treatment. The epilepsy attacks increased gradually. The patient started taking antiepileptic drugs for treatment. The times of epileptic seizure was reduced obviously. The attack times are about 1-2 times each year. The patient presented with intelligence developmental delay, speech developmental delay and motor developmental delay. With some assistance, the patient could walk, but the walking gait was abnormal. His bilateral lower limbs would bend when he walked, he didn't receive other therapy. Before treatment, the patient could say "Daddy" "Mama" and the simple words. With some assistance, the patient could walk, but the waking gait was abnormal. Both lower limbs flexion, distort trunk. He had poor ability to finish instructions. He could crawl or sit by himself. His mood was more exciting. His attention was absent.

Nervous System Examination:

Sebastian Daniel Miranda was alert and had a speech disorder. He could only say simple words, such as "daddy", "mama". He knew few words and could only communicate with others simply. He couldn't cooperate with the examination of orientation, memory or calculation. He had obvious salivation. His mood obviously was hyper-excitability and hyperactivity. Both pupils were equal in size and round, the diameter was about 4.5mms. Both pupils were sensitive to light stimuli. The movement of the eyeballs was flexible and had slight nystagmus. The forehead wrinkle pattern was symmetrical. The nasolabial sulcus was equal in depth. He was unable to cooperate with the examination of cranial nerves. There was movement disturbance of both lower limbs. He could walk with some assistance, but the walking gait was abnormal. Bilateral knee joints and hip joints would bend when he walked. The distance of both feet was wider than normal. His heels couldn't touch the floor when he walks or stands. The trunk twist was larger when he walked. He could crawl and maintain sitting position by himself. The crawling speed was quick. The muscle strength of the trunk was weak when he was in the sitting position. He was unable to stand up from a squat position. He couldn't cooperate with the examination of muscle strength. The muscle tone of the four limbs was normal. Bilateral knee joints and ankle joints was tighter than normal. The tendon reflex of the four limbs was normal. The abdominal reflexes were normal. Bilateral Hoffmann sign was negative. Bilateral sucking reflex was negative. Bilateral palm jaw reflexes were negative. The jaw reflex was negative. Bilateral Babinski sign was negative. He couldn't cooperate with sensory system examination. He also couldn't cooperate with the coordinate movement examination. The meningeal irritation was negative.

Treatment:

After admission, Sebastian Daniel Miranda received the relevant examinations and he was diagnosed with Cerebral palsy and Epilepsy. The patient received treatment to improve the blood circulation in order to increase the blood supply to the damaged nerves and to nourish the neurons. He also received treatment for nerve regeneration and neural repair. This was combined with neurological rehabilitation treatment.

Post Treatment:

The patient has quicker growth and development. The weight increased 1Kg. He has more language and less salivation. He has better comprehension and cooperation with others. The degree of hyper-excitability is reduced. The Hyperactivity is reduced. With some assistance, the patient has better walking gait than before. The left lower limb is significantly straighter than before when he walks. The buckling degree of knee joints and hip joints are reduced obviously. The distance of both feet is reduced when he walks. His heels can touch the floor when he walks. The support strength of the back and waist are improved in the sitting position. With a slight assist, the patient can stand up by himself.

Sebastion is going better everyday!! He do the exercises with the therapist and the therapist said that he stand more strong holding with one hand and his legs are very strong too.!!

Last week he increased his weight.! Now is 22,5 kg.!!

Another good news is he hasn't got a convulsion and he has a very good sense of humour because he always smile.!

He paints with colours since last week and plays more with all kind of toys,he enjoys playing.!

Sebastian is good,he increased his weight now.When we return from the Hospital he was 21k and now he has 24k!!

We are so happy and expecting a lot, the arrive of the second week of April 2014 to see all of you again.
Sebastian is good, feels happy , increase his weight,eat a lot and do more things than before to go to China, but sometimes,not always, he feels like in another world because reacts and acts differently.
We are giving medicine in the correct time,doing exercises everyday and plays with him all the time and plays with all of his toys.
Today he had a bad seizure that lasted 5 minutes. The last was in June.
Anyway, we have seen good changes in their behavior since returning home and we noticed them, and many people have seen the changes too.

The second round treatment:

Sebastian Daniel Miranda Iglesias is an 8-years-old boy. He was diagnosed with 1.Cerebral palsy, 2. Epilepsy. The patient received one therapy in our hospital in May 2013. After therapy, the patient had quick growth and development. His weight was increased too. He could say more words. He had better comprehension and cooperation with others. His emotion became better than before. His hyperactivity had reduced. With some assistance, the patient had better walking gait than before. His heels could touch floor when he walks. The support strength of back and waist had improved in sitting position. With a slight assistance, the patient could stand up by himself from squatting position.

Admission PE:

Bp: 99/66mmHg; Hr: 95/min. Height: 127cms, weight: 28kgs. The skin and mucosa were normal with no hemorrhaging spots or yellow stains. The respiratory sounds in both lungs were clear, with no dry or moist rales. Through auscultation, the heart sound was strong. He had sinus arrhythmia. There was no obvious murmur in the auscultatory valve areas. The abdomen was smooth, with no pressing pain or rebound tenderness. The liver and spleen were not palpable under the ribs.

Nervous System Examination:

Sebastian was alert and had a speech disorder. He could only say simple words, such as "daddy", "mama" and "Hello". He knew few words and only could communicate with others simply. He had good ability of comprehension and cooperation. He couldn't cooperate with the examination of orientation or memory. His mood obviously was hyperexcitability and hyperactivity state. Both pupils were equal in size and round, the diameter was about 4.5mms. Both pupils were sensitive to light stimuli. The movement of eyeballs was flexible and had slight nystagmus. The forehead wrinkle pattern was symmetrical. The nasolabial sulcus was equal in depth. He was unable to cooperate with the examination of cranial nerves. The activity of both hands was flexible. He was able to open or close door, turn on or off TV, drink water or other daily life activity. He couldn't cooperate with the examination of muscle strength. The muscle tone of his four limbs was normal. Bilateral knee joints and ankle joints was tighter than normal. The tendon reflex of his four limbs was normal. The abdominal reflexes were normal. Bilateral Hoffmann sign was negative. Bilateral sucking reflex was negative. Bilateral palm jaw reflexes were negative. The jaw reflex was negative. Bilateral Babinski sign was negative. He couldn��t cooperate with sensory system examination. He also couldn't cooperate with the coordinate movement examination. The meningeal irritation was negative. The test showed abnormal liver function, the glutamic-pyruvic transaminase was higher than normal.

Treatment:

After admission, Sebastian received the relevant examinations and he was diagnosed with Cerebral palsy, Epilepsy and Abnormal liver function. The patient received treatment for nerve regeneration and to activate stem cells in the body. He received treatment to improve the blood circulation in order to increase the blood supply to the damaged nerves and to nourish the neurons. He also received treatment to protect liver. This was combined with neurological rehabilitation treatment.

Post Treatment:

The patient's sprit and mood are more stable than before. There is no epileptic seizure. The neurological function has improved. Cognitive functional aspects: his concentration or attention is better. He likes littering before the treatment and after treatment the condition is reduced. His speech is clearer than before, and he has gained more vocabulary. He can greet someone actively. He has more communication with others now. He can understand and cooperate with others better. He has a more sensitive reaction to painful stimuli. Sports: the involuntary movement of eyeballs is alleviated. He has eye contact with others. The muscle strength in his waist, back and both lower limbs have increased. The coordination has improved. With some assistance, the patient can go up and descend stairs more easily, and the action is more standard. The activity tolerance has increased obviously. He used obvious less antiepileptic drug. The liver function has restore to normal level.

Hello Our Dear Family in Beijing.!!!

How are you?I imagine that in your beautiful city is summer now,and here is very cold.!!!We are taking care with Sebastián with the weather,so don´t worry about it.
We are fine and happy to write to you.!!!We are sending the first test blood of Sebastián and pictures of his exercises.
Please, try to indicate what we must do and correct with the blood test.
Every monday,tuesday,wednesday and friday we take Sebastián to do exercises.We show the indications of the exercises plan that you gave us.We have seen that Sebastián has good attitude to do the exercises and the therapist works hard especially with the right leg.!!! And has the look more fixed.
The therapist is from Cuba and we talk everyday about stem cells.He needs to take his wife for a treatment with stem cells because she lost her memory.He believes and trust in the treatment and recognize that is the only way to obtain a better qualify of life.He will help us with Sebastián and have a goal to work hard for the next 3 months.!!!

Sebastián is doing excercises with a good attitude but I have a question.: sometimes bites his hand as nervous and tightened strong teeth, it is because of the results of the blood test values? Any suggestions?

And another good thing is that he turn on and turn off the Tv and computer.He is always attentive to every conversation,we notice about it.

First of all,We pray for you everyday,because all of you are in our hearts.!!!

Now,here, I attack a new blood test of Sebastián and another pictures. You can see the information below.

Please try to give us other indications because TSH is high.What can we do?

Sebastián continues doing excercises everyday in a Private Institute and with the cuban therapist who lives in our city since 3 years ago,and when we returned to our house, he felt very tired and sleep very normal.We gives him the medicine everyday in the correct time;9am,4pm and 8pm.

We see sometimes that he try to read a paper,book or a magazine but only see and we ask what he likes and he don´t ask but smiles always.He intents to communicate,he wants, but We know and can see that he feels limited.

Sebastian always surprises and always had something extra strength since birth because it teaches you that anything is posible.!!!

He eats everything and enjoying eating.!!!

In one of the photos is with grandparents,they are very happy with him and in other,he intented to walk alone.!!! WE SAW,WE SAW, BUT HE DIDN´T CONTINUE!!! IT WAS A MIRACLE,ONLY FOR 10 SECONDS...!!!

We hope and We are waiting for the day that he surprised us walking alone.!!!

The teacher of Sebastián at the school, told me that he has a good behaviour,always smiles and she see that he is more concentrate than last year.She also told me that he wants to talk more and plays with other things.

I told her(the teacher) that Sebastián spends more time standing looking at the Windows,right,and greeting people.!!!

He continues doing excercises,drawing,painting,eating all and plays with a notebook that have received from the school. I can see a good sense of humour.!

The Orthopedic surgeon ordered a plate of hip and back and Neurosurgeon also called a CT brain to control.

Hello Again My Dear Friends in Beijing.!!!

Now I am sending a copy of the results of the MRI that was done to Sebastian and you can see that says there´s No hydrocephalus.!!!We are very very very happy.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Dr who did the MRI was surprised and the other Drs because they did not expect such good changes and they does not know that we went to China. The only Dr who knows about us, is the Neurosurgeon who always recommended on Stem Cells.

Now Sebastian is grown,getting improved and We take him to the school,doing exercises and plays with his toys. He always watch TV,turn on and turn off.

We continuos giving the medicine that you had indicated and provided. There's no more seizure and he is very happy everyday.

Although he is good now he need to increase his intellegence development. Everyday he talks another new word.he understand everything that We indicatebut he need toincrease his intellegence development.

We have faith and trust in the next Stem Cells Treatment because We know he will be better.!!
