Before treatment:
Mr. Ahmed I couldn’t see objects clearly during the night 6 years ago, his life wasn’t influenced but his disease progressed quickly. There were some family members had retinitis pigmentosa so he went to hospital and was diagnosed with the same disease. His vision at night is bad now, it is hard for him to walk in the dark and his day vision is not good either. Both side temperal fields are smaller than normal. He wants a better life so he came to our hospital.
His spirit, eating and sleeping are normal. His bladder and bowel actions are good.
Admission PE:
Bp: 98/65mmHg; Hr: 48/min, Br: 18/min. His development and nutrition were normal. The skin and mucous was normal. There was no ecchymosis, petechia or yellow stains on skin. The thorax was symmetrical. The respiratory sounds of both lungs were clear, with no moist rales. The heart sounds were strong, the rhythm was regular, and there was no obvious murmur in the valve area. The abdomen was flat and soft, with no obvious masses. Through palpation, the liver and spleen were not enlarged.
Nervous System Examination:
He was alert and his speech was clear. His memory, orientation and calculation ability were normal. Both pupils were equal in size and round, the diameter was 3.0mms. Both eyes were sensitive to direct light reflex and consensual reflex. 3 meters standard visual chart：left naked eye vision was 1.0, right naked eye vision was 0.6. visual field examination：left eye: nasal side was 30 degree, bitamporal was 44 degrees, right eye: nasal side was 28 degree, bitamporal was 45 degrees. Under ophthalmoscope: the color of both eye fundus was light orange，the right side color was lighter and there was some osteoid sediment. Optic nerve head and macular area were normal. Blood vessel under the eye, Artery: Vein was 1:3. Both eyeballs could move freely to each side. His right eye was a little bit outside the normal position. He had horizontal nystagmus with both eyes. The forehead wrinkle pattern was symmetrical, the nasolabial sulcus was equal in depth, the teeth were symmetrical and the tongue was centered in the oral cavity. There was flexible movement in the neck. The muscle tone of all four limbs was normal; the muscle strength of all four limbs was at level 5. The tendon reflex was normal. Bilateral pathological signs are negative. The deep sensation and superficial sensation were normal. The coordinated movements were normal. Meningeal irritation sign was negative.
Treatment:
After the admission, Mr. Ahmed I received all of the relevant examinations and was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa. He received 3 neural stem cell injections and 3 mesenchymal stem cell injections to repair his damaged optic nerves, replace dead nerves with new injected stem cells, improve the retina function, activate his own stem cells, nourish retina and optic nerves, and improve blood circulation. He also had rehabilitation training.
Post-treatment:
After 14 days of treatment, his condition is getting better, eyesight and visual field have improvement obviously. 3 meters standard visual chart：left naked vison has reached 1.2, the right side is 0.9. The visual field examination：left nasal side is 45 degrees，bitamporal is 60 degrees，right nasal side is 40 degrees，bitamporal is 60 degrees. Under ophthalmoscope：the color of both eye fundus are jacinth (red/orange) and the color vision is better than before. The osteoid sediment of both eye fundus are reduced. There is nothing abnormal in the optic nerve head and macular area. Blood vessel under the eye，Artery：Vein was 2:3.
