Karry Haeed-Type 1 Diabetes and Schizophrenia-(Saudi Arabia)

Before treatment:
The patient suffered from coma, hyperhidrosis and son symptoms 2 years ago, without obvious incentive. She was sent to a local hospital and was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and Schizophrenia. She received insulin through hypodermic injection. The blood sugar level was unstable. At present, the patient still has polydipsia and diuresis. The weight was reduced than before and decreased to 20 Kg. The patient suffered from schizophrenia for many years and took Haloperidol and Puhuanding for treatment.

From the onset of disease, the patient had normal spirit. The diet was normal. The defecation and urine was normal. There was no familial hereditary disease or infectious disease. Her brother suffered from autism. One of her uncles was schizophrenic.

Admission PE:
Bp: 115/85mmHg; Hr: 78/min, Br: 18/min. Temperature: 36.6 degrees. The skin and mucosa was gloomy. The respiratory sounds in both lungs were clear, with no dry or moist rales. Through auscultation: the heart sounds were strong, heart rate 78/min.  The heart rhythms were regular, with no murmur in the valve areas. The abdomen was flat and soft. There was no obvious mass in abdomen. The liver and spleen were not palpable under the ribs. There was no edema in the lower limbs. The blood sugar level 2 hours before dinner and 2 hours after dinner were monitored for many times. All the level were higher than 15mmol/L.

Nervous System Examination:
Karry Haeed was alert and expression was dim. She had a masked face. Her speech was humble. She had slow response. She was unable to cooperate with the examination of memory, calculation abilities or orientation. Both pupils were equal in size and round, the diameter was 2.5mms. Both eyeballs could move freely and flexibly and the pupils were sensitive to light stimulus. The forehead wrinkle pattern was symmetrical. The nasolabial sulcus was equal in depth. The teeth showed without deflection. The uvula was in the center of oral cavity. The neck had no resistance. The muscle strength of her four limbs was at level 5. The muscle tone of her four limbs was increased like gear. The tendon reflex of her four limbs was weak. The pathological reflex was negative. Bilateral alternate motion was slow.

Treatment:
Karry Haeed received related examination. She was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and Schizophrenia. Doctor asked the patient to have diabetic diet and rational diet. Doctor monitored the blood sugar level and adjusted the insulin dosage. She was given treatment to expand the blood vessels and nourish the neurons. She also was given treatment for nerve regeneration and to activate stem cells in the body. This was accompanied with physical rehabilitation training.

Post-treatment:
The patient's emotion is better than before. She has stopped taking the medications, that is, Haloperidol and Puhuanding. The skin is glossy and smoother than before. The improvement is more significant in the four limbs' ends. She has more facial expression. The high muscle tone has reduced than before. After admission, the insulin's dosage and number were reduced form the second week, the blood sugar level was still under control. The fasting blood-glucose and 2-hour post-meal blood glucose level has been restored to ideal standard.  During the therapy, the patient suffered from fever, psychentonia and stress response at the third week after admission. The blood sugar level fluctuated, blood sugar; 15-20mmol/L.
